Valuable Articles Did you know that all house, condominium and tenants policies provide only minimal coverage for your valuable articles? Most have a limit of $5,000 for jewellery and furs, $2,000 for coin and stamp collections, $1,000 for collectibles (including hockey cards) and $500 for bicycles. If you have any valuable items with a value that is greater than the above limits, you should seriously consider adding the special valuable articles extension to your policy. This is done by what is known as "scheduling". In effect, each item requiring this special coverage will be listed on your policy with a full and complete description together with the appraised amount. This approach ensures that you receive full coverage in the event of loss or damage and that there are no questions as to the value of the item. Other unique features of valuable articles protection include:
You can add the valuable articles extension to a house, condominium or tenants policy. The charge for this coverage is usually based on a percentage of the appraised value of each item (jewellery starting at 1.2%, fine arts 0.25% and collectibles 0.95%). If you have a significant investment in fine art, jewellery or other valuable items, you should consider our Signature product.
